The University of Miskolc and the Climate Policy Institute signed an agreement on cooperation in the field in the field of climate change, related professional work, training and scientific dissemination.

The two organizations signed the agreement in a ceremony held on 10 February 2022, where Prof. Dr Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc, said that one of the major goals of the University was to make sustainability, nature conservation and environmental protection a priority in its development. As examples, she mentioned some ongoing projects, the development of a Science and Innovation Park, which is in the planning phase, and the implementation of the project "Green and Smart Campus". These projects also illustrate the institution's new approach. The University's role in this cooperation is not only to sensitize students but also to raise awareness in society of the importance of a sustainable economy and energy efficiency.

Máté Litkei, Director of the Climate Policy Institute, stressed that sustainability itself was a combination of environmental, social and economic factors, it is therefore essential to coordinate these areas. The University of Miskolc is considered as an ideal partner for the Climate Policy Institute since not only is it one of the most dynamically developing higher education institutions in Hungary, it also has faculties of engineering, law, economics and humanities. Today, interdisciplinary cooperation is indispensable, especially when tackling complex problems such as climate change.

Dr Lajos Szalontai, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences at the University of Miskolc, underlined the importance of bringing information to young people and shaping the minds of the next generation as a primary task. For instance, the advanced course to train climate adaptation engineers, which is the first such course accredited in Central Europe and which was developed at the University of Miskolc, offers an excellent opportunity to do so.
