Máté Litkei graduated as an environmental engineer in agriculture, at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He specialized his studies in regional development, and later expanded his knowledge in science of public governence at the University of Public Service. As the CEO of an agricultural and food industry company, he was involved in the production and distribution of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industry ingredients for several years. Later, he founded his company specializing in sustainability and energy consulting.

He continued his career as a policy analyst, focusing particularly on European and Hungarian energy and climate policies. In addition, he worked as a parliamentary advisor and speechwriter for a few years. Currently, he is a researcher at the Environmental Sustainability Institute of the University of Public Service and a member of the Climate Protection, Transportation, and Urban Development Committee of the Budapest City General Assembly. He joined the Climate Policy Institute of Mathias Corvinus Collegium as a researcher in 2020, later became the head of research, and in 2021, he became the director.
