As a prelude to the MCC Feszt, we organized the biggest litter picking in the Danube Bend at Lake Palatinus in Esztergom, where we collected litter both on the ground and underwater.

As last year, the Palatinus Lake in Esztergom hosted the Plastic-Free July event, where young and old alike came together to clean up the littered environment.

Despite the high temperatures, nearly 150 volunteers came to our event, which helped to clean up the area around the Pala.

A truckload of waste was removed from the bottom and shore of Lake Palatinus and transported to the right place by the local public maintenance company. Among the inappropriate items were coffee makers, oil drums, car seat covers and virtually everything you can imagine.

Thank you all for your participation!

In addition to the enthusiastic team members of our institute, as a result of the exemplary cooperation, the event was attended by the staff of the Esztergom municipality, local swimmers, cavers, conservationists, divers and anglers. Ádám Hernádi, Mayor of Esztergom, also joined in the litter picking. Special thanks go to the Esztergom City Council for the cool drinking water provided in the hot weather.

All participants who requested and provided the necessary details received free entry to the MCC Feszt, and the winners of the scavenger hunt at the event were awarded valuable prizes.

We hope to keep the lake and its surroundings shall remain clean for a long time. Photo by Dániel Holla, Balázs Zay
