On November 3, a high-level delegation of Thai diplomats and experts visited the Budapest headquarters of Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC). The event, organized by the MCC Climate Policy Institute, served as an excellent platform for scientific exchange and further strengthened the already outstanding diplomatic relations between Hungary and Thailand.
The Thai delegation included several distinguished figures, among them H.E. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, President of the National Assembly and the House of Representatives of Thailand, President of the King Prajadhipok Institute, and head of the delegation; Issara Sereewatthanawut, Secretary-General of the King Prajadhipok Institute; and H.E. Phrommes Bhaholpolbhayuhasena, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Hungary.
The event opened with a welcome speech by Zoltán Szalai, Director General of MCC, who introduced the institution’s broad educational and research activities. He was followed by Gergely Kitta, Director of MCC’s network of think tanks, who presented the work of the Climate Policy Institute. These presentations provided an excellent foundation for identifying future cooperation opportunities, a point emphasized by Secretary-General Issara Sereewatthanawut, who spoke on behalf of the Thai delegation.
The Thai representatives also outlined their country’s key environmental challenges, including air pollution, flash floods, and the national transition away from fossil fuels.
Following the opening speeches, participants engaged in a lively discussion covering a wide range of topics such as the path toward carbon neutrality, water management, strategies for changing social attitudes, and possible responses to air pollution.
The event concluded with a professional presentation by Dr. József Kolossa, Senior Sustainability Advisor at the Hungarian Association for Environmentally Conscious Building, followed by further questions and an open exchange of ideas.
