The Climate Policy Institute participated in a professional workshop organized by the Institute for Energy Strategy in Brussels on 28 January 2026, focusing on a cornerstone of EU climate and energy policy: the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs).

The workshop brought together European policymakers, institutional representatives, and sector experts to examine the structural and implementation challenges of the NECPs and explore how these plans can better support the EU’s long-term climate objectives, particularly in the lead-up to the 2040 targets.

For the Institute, engagement in this discussion is highly relevant because effective NECPs rely on transparent, evidence-based policymaking, robust stakeholder involvement, and clear pathways to achieving emissions reductions.

By participating, the Climate Policy Institute highlighted the importance of aligning national plans with broader EU climate goals, promoting data-driven approaches, and ensuring public and institutional buy-in for ambitious climate strategies. The workshop reinforced the Climate Policy Institute’s role in fostering informed dialogue on the intersection of policy design, implementation, and long-term climate planning, essential elements for a sustainable, carbon-neutral Europe.
