Dr Calum TM Nicholson is representing MCC and the Climate Policy Institute at a symposium on ‘migration and climate change’, at Clare Hall, University of Cambridge, where he delivered the opening talk.
Taking the stage with Benoît Mayer, his co-editor on their recent book, Climate Migration: critical perspectives for law, policy, and research (Hart: Bloomsbury), Dr Nicholson warned against causal determinism, and made the case that our understanding of climate change is informed as much by an impoverished understanding of society as it is by a rich understanding of the science of climate change, and that once the science is settled, all the most difficult questions - about how to respond to climate change - remain to be solved.
