At the end of April, CPI mounted not one but two missions to China, building connections with Chinese partners in academia and industry both on the Mainland and in Hong Kong.

While a delegation of three researchers travelled to the mainland, where among other things they delivered a presentation at Tongji University, and visited Fudan University, the institute's Director, Calum T.M. Nicholson, journeyed separately to Hong Kong to introduce CPI to the research community in Hong Kong, and to deliver a lecture at the invitation of the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability (IEES) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Set deep in the New Territories, against a backdrop of green peaks, and enveloped by the wet and humid conditions so typical of Hong Kong at this time of year, CUHK is at the forefront of research in East Asia on environmental issues and sustainability in general. The IEES is also home to a particularly good museum on climate change.

Accompanied by his colleague and frequent collaborator Prof Benoit Mayer, a tenured professor in Environmental Law at CUHK, Dr Nicholson spoke for an hour to an audience of the IEES and  CUHK on the topic 'How to Think About Climate Change'. The lecture was followed by a stimulating discussion.

CPI is looking forward to building on this connection with CUHK, and working with both it and the IEES in particular in future.
